PowerSmile - Toothpaste, 6 oz ( Multi-Pack)

Jason PowerSmile Toothpaste, Peppermint, 6-Ounce TubesI seriously can't believe I'm about to write this much about toothpaste. However, if it can even help one other person end their pain, then it's worth it.

I alternate between this flavor and the Sea Fresh Jason's toothpaste exclusively.I used to get *incredibly* painful canker sores in my mouth that would last for weeks.I've always had them on and off, but they started to get much worse as I got older.I would get them every month or so like clockwork, regardless of stress level, work load, sleep schedule, etc.The sores would swap between the inside of my left and right cheeks or near the gum line.I honestly thought I might have contracted some sort of STD until a friend suggested I could be allergic to the chemicals in my toothpaste.

I was skeptical at first, but decided to do a bit of research online.I figured I had nothing to lose but the pain.I started looking up the chemicals in the toothpaste I normally buy from CVS.(Colgate, Crest, whatever is on sale at the time.)I'm still not sold on the harmful effects of certain ingredients (like Flouride).

However, one chemical that kept coming up was Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.Apparently, it's used in a variety of products including shampoo, soaps, and of course toothpaste. It's even used in construction and manufacturing (Although, they're likely employing the industrial variant of the chemical . . . I hope.)

From what I've gathered, it acts as a universal foaming agent. In shampoo and soaps, it produces lather. In toothpaste, along with various mint/flavoring compounds, it produces that tingly foam that makes you think your mouth is extra clean. What it's actually doing is drying out the membrane on the inside of your mouth. For some people, like myself, the effect is especially pronounced.(I guess you could even go so far as to call it an allergy.)Any minor cut, tear, or perforation on the inner lining of my mouth would eventually lead to a painful canker sore. Many times, the canker sores would just developed on their own.

Then, I switched over to Jason's Toothpaste.I don't know about the other variants, but the Peppermint and Sea Fresh flavors have been working wonders for me.The effect was dramatic.Within the first week, the canker sores started to diminish in size and the pain practically disappeared. For a few weeks after that, I still got the occasional canker sore, but they were smaller in size, disappeared within a day or two, and were painless!I'm still not 100% positive if it is the absence of SLS specifically (as opposed to some other chemical) that makes this toothpaste effective for me.All I know for sure is that I haven't had another canker sore since then when using this toothpaste.

One "negative" is that Jason's Toothpaste doesn't foam up the same way without the SLS.So, for the first week, I was actually worried that my teeth weren't getting as clean since I'd been conditioned to expect that foamy tingle.(I was subconsciously associating it with that same tingle that you get from the concentrated alcohol in Scope or the lather in soap.)However, after a month, I noticed that my teeth were just as clean as before.I got a checkup and the Dentist didn't even notice until I told him.

The toothpaste also doesn't include any fancy "whitening" agents. However, the effectiveness of that stuff is debatable at best.I just can't imagine a little bit of bleach substitute mixed in with your toothpaste having anything more than a negligible impact on the whiteness of your teeth.

The only other potential negative is that the toothpaste also comes in a "licorice" variety, which is absolutely disgusting to me.The peppermint and sea fresh flavors, however, taste a bit like mild chewing gum.I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to it, but it tastes good to me.In all honesty, though, it's actually kind of silly to expect toothpaste to taste like anything, as long as it isn't unpleasant.

As a final comment, I'll just say that I recently took a short trip out of state without my SLS-free toothpaste.I only had a carry on.So, I grabbed one of those little Crest travel size toothpastes with the SLS in it.BIG mistake.Within two days of using the Crest, the canker sores came back.By the middle of my trip, I was in absolute agony. It's not unlike drinking soda after a half year absence. The stuff just burned the inside of my mouth. When I got home, I immediately switched back to Jason's toothpaste.Within a day or two, the canker sores were gone.

I sincerely hope this helps someone else get rid of their canker sores.I can't promise that it will work for everyone, but it has certainly worked wonders for me.I will never buy the cheap stuff again. You aren't saving anything.

For years I'd struggled with canker sores, getting at least one or two per month, each lasting a week or longer. There would be stretches where I'd have 2 or 3 in my mouth at a time. The pain affected everything I did.

I had tried home remedies, drug store gimmicks, diet adjustments... nothing helped.Until I gave Burt's Bees toothpaste a try.No Sodium Laurel Sulphates (SLS).That was the magic ingredient I needed to eliminate. When my local Target was sold out of Burt's Bees, I gave Jason a try.Same effects, better price!

Now that Targets in my area (Twin Cities, MN) appear to no longer stock Burt's Bees or Jason, Amazon is the place to buy either (I favor Jason now because of the price and because the tube is cleaner toward the end of its use).

If you suffer from canker sores, give either or both a try. It's worked miracles in my life!

This is the best toothpaste I've ever used.In the past I alternated between Sensodyne and Tom's, and neither left my teeth feeling nearly as clean as this.Tom's was the worst, and I tried many different formulas.I thought there was a problem with my electric toothbrush--until I tried this toothpaste.Think all toothpastes clean alike?Think again. This stuff is wonderful. My teeth feel so smooth it's like you could ice skate over them.Be warned, though, the mint is intense.

This toothpaste taste great. It can be more cheaply purchased at some stores though than at amazon.com.Also for those of you concerned about using safe toothpaste, not all of Jason's toothpaste products are safe.Their gel toothpastes use fluoride for instance.Just a word of caution.
