Tom's of Maine Antiplaque and Whitening Fluoride-free Toothpaste, Peppermint, 5.5-Ounce (Pack of 2)

Tom's of Maine Antiplaque and Whitening Fluoride-free Toothpaste, Peppermint, 5.5-OunceIf you want a carcinogen in your toothpaste, this one is for you. After the brand was bought by a large corporation, they added sodium lauryl sulfate.

I bought this because I wanted a fluoride-free toothpaste. It smells pretty good, the taste is not particularly good, and the aftertaste is horrible. And, the aftertaste lingers a long time.I had to eat something to take away the taste kind of defeats the purpose of brushing.I definitely would NOT recommend this toothpaste. The fluoride-free aspect is its only good quality.

Update:I used this toothpaste anyway, despite the taste.I guess I developed a tolerance for it.Anyway, after a glowing report from my dental hygienist, I must upgrade my rating a bit.She said there was hardly any cleaning needed, so I'm guessing that it actually is anti-plaque.You can't argue with success it was my best report in years, and I don't know what else to attribute it to.However, I still don't like the taste, and no toothpaste will work if it isn't used.

I like Tom's of Maine toothpastes, and this variety is also good.

PROS:

Strong peppermint flavor that tastes real, not chemically.

Contains xylitol, which has proven positive effects on oral health.

Fluoride-free for those concerned with health effects of fluoride.

Nothing artificial (including sweeteners)

Freshens my breath very, very well.

Makes my teeth feel clean every use.

CONS:

Toothpaste is a bit gooey.

Freshness doesn't last long enough.

OTHER:

Toothpaste is an off-white color.Moderate foaming.

I really like this toothpaste and would recommend it to anyone looking to have more natural products.

Have you noticed the warning on majority of toothpaste sold in US? People don't even know that if they or their child swallows more than a "pea-sized" amount of toothpaste, they "should" call poison control. They immediately transfer your call to your local 911 office who is preparing to send Emergency Assistance to your home...

Colgate purchased Tom's of Maine and ... Tom's of Maine Antiplaque and Whitening Fluoride-free Toothpaste, Peppermint, 5.5-Ounce (Pack of 2) has SLS. Tom's of Maine Clean and Gentle Care, Peppermint with Fluoride, 4.7 Ounce (Pack of 2) is SLS free unfortunately with fluoride...

I consume tea. Both green and black teas contain fluoride, although green tea contains twice the amount found in black. About 50 percent of fluoride (from any source) is deposited in the bone and teeth; the other half is excreted. Concerns about fluoride are overblown since you'd have to ingest about 20,000 times more fluoride than what is in an 8-ounce glass of fluoridated water to see such an effect. Regardless, I get enough fluoride from my city drinking water and do not need additional fluoride or additives like Sorbital and Saccharin sweetners, SLS poison which breaks down tissue and causes cankers, Propylene Glycol an alcohol, etc...

I liked the idea of trying a toothpaste without fluoride. However, after using this for a few weeks, I noticed a browning of one of my teeth. To get rid of and prevent that from happening again, I now alternate between this and a different toothpaste. I probably won't buy this again.
