When you go to the dentist, don't you leave feeling how clean your teeth are? With this product, you can feel that every day. Granted, I am one of those that goes to the dentist on a compulsively regualr basis. However, I am not the best at the daily lossing that should go with it. Bought a water pik and this. What did I have to lose? My mother and her siblings and a grandfather all had every tooth in their head when they died, I want to carry that tradition with me to my grave (insert smile). I bought my first bottle and timed it to finish it with my next visit to the dentist. My hygenist was blown away. the difference was immediately visible and as the cleaning progressed she stopped to accuse me of having gotten them cleaned elsewhere before coming in for that appointment. Not talking hyperbole here, straight truth. That is how good this product is. Nothing else changed but adding this product to my regimin.

Okay so i bought one bottle of periogen about 44 days ago, i still have a small amount left i use 2 applications per day.

i currently have periodontal disease, yes yes i know i should have taken better care of my teeth but any how i am 33 years old and have better teeth than my friends...my teeth are white but my gums are red and receding unfortunately...

i cannot afford to go through the pain of having a deep cleaning as it will peel away layers of gum tissue and pull my gums down further

and the pain is unbearable as stated by alot of people..

but the problem is that it takes to long, YES i have seen a great reduction of tartar but the tartar is still on my teeth even after 6 weeks of use

i think another bottle of periogen should reduce the tartar to a great extent that it no longer becomes a serious problem in my life...

A new hygienist said I needed a deep cleaning that involved blindly scraping below the gumline to remove tartar. Despite no signs of gingivitis or bone loss on the xray gum pockets as deep as 6mm in one spot and 3 other areas with 4-5mm pockets indicated some problems. The dentist said I was in store for a root canal without the deep cleaning. Then the shocking news that the deep cleaning was $400 and had to be repeated every 3 months so now I'm faced with $1600 for just the first year. After alot of research I decided to try periogen and the ultra waterpik. In 5 weeks my gums are visibly healthier and I noticed that the waterpik flushing out loads of particles despite thoroughly flossing so I'm wondering if it's the waterpik or the periogen causing the great results. I was going to right off the periogen because I could still see a tiny spot of tartar missed by the hygienist. However, I just noticed today that the spot of tartar seems to be shrinking and I just hope it's not my imagination. I can say with 100% certainty that periogen prevents tartar from forming and completely takes care of plaque. Only time will tell if periogen will keep gum disease from worsening.

Only 4 stars because either the waterpik or the periogen dramatically worsened tooth sensitivity on a molar. I believe that setting the waterpik at 5 caused more of the root to be exposed. Hopefully sensodine will calm it down, but never use ultra pik above level 2 and you should not run into a problem like I did. I think periogen should be better at this potential problem because I called the company before I got the product and was literally instructed to set it at 5 while using the ultra pik.

I started using Periogen when it first came on the market several years ago.At that time my gums were a mess.I had close to a dozen pockets that were either 5's or 6's and my gums would bleed even when I would lightly brush my teeth.I was going to the dentist every three months for cleaning and suffered through several deep cleanings.Not only were the deep cleanings torture and time consuming but they also emptied my wallet. Two months after using Periogen my Hygienist was amazed at the improvement in the health of my gums.Not only had my pockets significantly closed (nothing more than a four) but there was no bleeding where before my gums would bleed from her just charting them.My Hygienist's comment after the second visit was that Periogen could put her out of business.I use the product with a Waterpik (I would say a requirement) and at times I have regressed from using Periogen with negative results.However, when I return to regular use my gums are revitalized and all issues go away almost immediately.

I honestly do not know exactly how much the Periogen is doing and how much is the Waterpik and other irrigation solutions I am using. I try using a half water-half hydrogen peroxide solution instead of Periogen and my mouth feels the same level of cleanliness as when I use Periogen with water. I also just mix plain baking soda with the water and get much of the same effect. I am getting ready to try some clove with green tea and other mixtures as well. There is no double blind scientific test that I know of which convincingly demonstrates that Periogen is the one and only factor that helps eliminate tartar and controls gum disease. The Waterpik deserves the five star reviews since it definitely works and can be scientifically proven to be effective. The Periogen may or may not be a critical factor in augmenting the Waterpik's efficacy. I am not going to be a lemming here and proclaim Periogen's greatness. It helps the Waterpik do its job, but so do several other substances that are a lot cheaper. Is it so much better than those other substances? I doubt it. A combination of a peroxide mix irrigation with a baking soda mix irrigation afterwards would, if I were to make an educated guess, do just as well. But I do not have a double blind study to show anyone and neither does Periogen. Peroxide is supposed to weaken tooth enamel but a short burst of irrigation with baking soda afterwards will neutralize it. Perhaps that is the best and most economical solution. Periogen may be a very overrated and overpriced product. Or not. The company needs to have an independent source do several double blind studies before making any claims to its superiority. I still use Periogen as a part of my regimen, but I add in other methods and substances and find the effect is very positive, which allows me to use a lot less Periogen. It isn't the one and only magic bullet.
