This is a fantastic toothbrush, but apparently it is not compatible with peroxide & baking soda toothpaste. I think there have been some instances of brush heads breaking in peoples' mouths. Crest has pulled the product from retailers and claims to be working on the problem.

I hope they get the problem fixed and re-introduce the product. For now, I can't find replacement heads anywhere.

The toothbrush itself works great. But getting the battery cover off and putting it back on is nearly impossible!And we've owned at least 3 or 4 in the past 5 years and every one has been the same.I end up in such a rage every time I have to change the batteries that everybody gets as far away from me as they can.The only reason I haven't bought a different brand is because when I see a sale on replacement heads or spinbrushes themselves I buy them because I still have a brush that works or extra heads at home.But if you have a lot of time and a lot of patience for difficult tasks, it's a great toothbrush.

My sister and her husband each have a Crest SpinBrush and kept telling me how great they are.I must say, I'm a believer now.I have lived with gingivitis for years.I brush every day, but my flossing habits aren't the best.Only having used this product for a week and I can already see a reduction in gum swelling.REALLY! ONE WEEK!I'm still amazed.

Yes, it's makes noise, but it's not deafening.It's not a loud as say a hair trimmer, so yes it's very tolerable.If you're worried about the noise being amplified by your jawbone inside your head, relax.When it's just the bristles against your teeth, there's no noise, but if the back of the brush head touches an opposing tooth, yup your head rings out, but that only happens once or twice to me when brushing.

The main thing that surprised me is it's very relaxing to brush my teeth now.I never timed my brush habits, but I think I'm taking longer.The drum of the motor and the feel of the moving bristles on my teeth is somewhat soothing.Maybe I'm just crazy, wouldn't be the first time.

The ONLY reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because now that I've checked the replacement heads for the Crest are a little more expensive that for other competing models.Still worth it for better gum health though!

Update 10/23/09:OK I'm giving it 5 out of 5 stars.I just ordered/received the Amazon soft bristle replacements and the cost was for two 2 packs (that's 4 heads).That's a reasonable price.Also, the original alkalines still going strong!

I had thought about getting an electric toothbrush but wasn't about lay out a lot of money for one and then have to pay an arm and a leg for brush replacements.

My dental hygenist while not suggesting a particular brand said that it wasn't necessary to pay a lot for one either that good electric toothbrushes that would do a good job could be purchased rather inexpensively.

I checked out a lot ofelectric toothbrushes on the web and their user reviews. Some were very pricey...definately out of my league.

On Consumer Research I noted the Spinbrush had a nice review from a study done by the American Dental Association noting that up to 70% of dental plaque was removed with a Spinbrush.Whatsmore you could pick one up for as little as 12 bucks.Well, I said to myself, if the ADA gives it a good report and its not all that expensive and the user reviews were generally favorable to the product I should purchase one.

To my delight the Spinbrush was on sale at Target for 9.50 last December.So I got the Spinbrush anda couple of brush heads that were also marked down.

Right away I noticed how clean my teeth feel.Compared to my old manual toothbrush the Spinbrush always does anice job.

The alkaline AA batteries that came with the Spinbrush lasted about 4 weeks and were replaced with rechargeable AA's.(I never buy alkaline batteries).

I notice my rechargable AA's are now approaching5 weeks of use and seem to be going strong. That's twice a day use of at least 2 mins per brushing.

Darned if I can come up with anything negative about the Spinbrush....except when I went to replace the batteries I had a bit of a challenge (as some other reviewers have indicated) in removing the cap at the base of the brush.But figured it out rather quickly.

Here's how to remove the cap:

Place the Spinbrush on the edge of a table with the brush facing AWAY from you.The cap end of the Spinbrush should be extended out over the table edge just a half inch or so beyondwhere the cap attatches to the handle of the Spinbrush.Hold the Spinbrush in place with your left and with the heel of the palm of your right hand push down on the cap and it will open.

I am very pleased with the Spinbrush and have no problem in recommending it.

The batteries that come with the brush, run out of charge quickly. So I decided to put in my own rechargeable batteries. The bottom cover is really difficult to take off. I was able to do it by gripping both ends with rubber grippers. But once the cap was off, to replace the cover with new batteries is an impossible task. Even my hubby tried to shut it closed and he couldn't do it.
