Burts Bees Natural Toothpaste, Multicare with Fluoride, 4-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 4)

Burts Bees Natural Toothpaste, Multicare with Fluoride, 4-Ounce TubesI've used this about 6 months. For many years, because I get a huge amount of unsightly plaque on my lower front teeth, I will hand-scrape those teeth with a dental scraper every week or two between frequent, painful cleanings. All these years there's been plenty to remove each time, until I started using this toothpaste. Now I check every two weeks and there is almost none, along with no more gum problems, and I delayed my cleaning six months and even then, the dentist said he found very little buildup. This is clearly because of the cranberry extract--plaque is caused by bacteria that sticks to the teeth. The cranberry extract prevents it sticking.Plus, it has xylitol, which has multiple benefits for enamel retention and rebuilding and gum health. My grocery store stopped carrying it, so now I'm here stocking up.My teeth feel as clean and smooth as with any other toothpaste, so I can't imagine what the reviewers complaining about grit and not feeling clean are talking about.Maybe they are using the gel, which I also tried and did not like.EDIT:I bought the 4-pack and there's one real problem: 3 out of 4 tubes so far have spotnaneously split on the side before being used up even two-thirds and leaked toothpaste all over the counter, which is a real waste. You have to throw them out. This has happened with previous tubes and I alerted the manufacturer, who replaced those, but there's a problem here that still hasn't been fixed.

I have always gotten the occasional canker sore, no big deal. But in the last few years, I got them much more frequently and they lasted longer so it was getting to be a big problem. I couldn't account for the change, except perhaps menopause. Through Googling I found that some people got relief by switching to a SLS-free toothpaste so I thought I would give it a try. Burt's was the only one I could readily find. It worked! I made the switch over a year ago and have only gotten two canker sores and one was immediately after a trip where I thought I could get by with regular toothpaste (the price with shipping to buy a travel size was prohibitive).

That makes me a happy camper. I now put some of this toothpaste in a small cosmetic container when I travel.

I find this toothpaste a little weird but I'll use anything that keeps the canker sores at bay. The consistency is a lot more runny than other toothpastes. If I don't store it with the cap pointing up, I end up with a gooey mess at the opening. I haven't had any noticeable whitening effect but really this does not purport to be a whitening toothpaste. Burt's has another toothpaste that whitens.

I ordered the fluoride containing version of this toothpaste by accident and found it has a chemically (new word?) taste. I gave it 4 stars since this review is for the fluoride version and gave 5 stars for the non-fluoride version for its better taste.Since my dentist says I don't need the added fluoride I'll go for better taste.

Product: The toothpaste is very thick and has to be squeezed a bit hard to come out of the tube which I like.No huge gushes of unwanted and wasted toothpaste.I love the peppermint flavor as it is subtle and not overpowering. This toothpaste leaves my teeth silky (versus squeaky) clean probably the glycerin in the product. They feel cleaner longer than expected with most toothpastes and certainly longer than with Tom's or Jason toothpastes mentioned above.

Whitening: I've used the non-fluoride version for 6 months and noticed a remarkable whitening much more whitening than with Tom's of Maine Whitening or Jason Natural Sea Fresh Toothpaste.

Tube: I don't think the lid is hard to open like some others have noted. But I do see how it would be hard for the elderly or small kids. The tube isn't plastic that pops back out to a rounded shape, but rather is the kind that stays smashed where you squeeze it.I like this kind of tubing as I don't have to work at squeezing out the remaining toothpaste each time, rather the tube stays flat so toothpaste is ready to come out the top.And since the toothpaste texture is so thick, it doesn't rush out when the lid is opened.

I love it!

I found nothing unsatisfactory about this toothpaste, it tastes and looks like old-fashioned plain white Crest I used as a child. It has a nice minty flavor and does not give you that burning sensation that Colgate does.

I am not a dentist or doctorso I have no idea about its health value. I got this as a free sample, and I was more than a little shocked by the price listed here.

I bought this because it is SLS-free.I get frequent canker sores, and while I can't say I get them less often, I CAN say that when I do get them, with this toothpaste I can brush my teeth without experiencing the burning of the SLS in regular toothpaste. It is minty and fresh, and I feel my teeth get plenty clean despite the lack of grit and foam.

For those who experience the tube splitting, I have found that unscrewing the whole cap instead of using the flip top helps prevent the splitting. The flip top is hard to snap off on some tubes anyway.

It is also less expensive than other SLS-free toothpastes. That's been my observation, anyway.
