This whitening gel is very strong. It does a great job. One thing people should be aware of though is that you need to be very careful how much you use. Not anywhere did I read that you cannot get the stuff on your gums, so what did I do -got too much on my gums. It started to burn, but I ignored it thinking the stuff was just working real good. No. Bad. I wasn't able to hold out very long. No permanent damage, but real tender for a couple of days. I just wish I knew it going in. Now I am more careful. No biggy, just be careful and the stuff works great. I would definitively purchase again/recommend.

I am a student dental hygienist and I recommend Opalescence to all of my patients. I was introduced to the product by an Ultradent consultant and I have used it ever since. The 35% gel is very strong and should be used very sparingly. One misconception patients have is they think the gel needs to cover then entire surface of the tooth to work. In actuality the gel will diffuse into the inside of the tooth whitening the entire tooth with just a drop of gel(the consultant taught us this). If you do not have custom trays it is best to place a 1-2mm size drop on the surface of your tooth and then place your molded tray into your mouth rather than placing too much gel into your tray and then into your mouth. This will protect your gums and save gel at the same time! To protect from sensitivity use Sensodyne toothpaste before and after application. Happy whitening everybody!

My dentist gave me the 10 percent solution of this product and I wasnt' finding it was doing anything so ordered the 35 percent solution and used it one time for 30 minutes.It whitenend the hell out of my teeth, but also made my teeth really sensitive for about a week.I tried it again a couple of weeks later and left on only ten minutes and again had sensitive teeth.So...if you tend to have sensitive teeth, I'd say go with a less powerful solution.On the other hand, if you need white teeth fast, this is your product.It worked really fast and really well to remove years of tea stains to my teeth.The price was really good at Amazon, way less than purchasing through the dentist's office.

I have ordered this product several times.Sometimes, it is so potent it only take 30 minutes.If it comes in contact with my gums, it burns and turns them white.Other times I have ordered this product and no burn on my guys and minimal results.The conclusion I have reached is sometimes you get fresh, effective product, other times you get old stock.There is no way to tell since there is no expiration date.There is no way to "guarantee freshness" when the manufacture willing withholds an expiration date or manufacture date.Any dentist will tell you, all bleaching gels loose their potency over time and do expire.So buy at your own risk!

This product is awesome!I ordered another bleaching product about a year ago and thought it was good at first, but that is because I forgot how good Opalescence is.The other product was watery and my teeth felt much more sensitive after use.I haven't had any harsh sensitivity issues with Opalescence.Also, it is thick so it stays on your teeth instead of running down into the bottom of the tray or into your mouth from the bottom tray.This one is a little more in cost, but worth the extra cost for sure!But it's not even expensive.I used to pay $80 for the same amount at my dentist.Anyhow, I usually put it on for about 45 mins to an hour and do the top and bottom separately skipping days in between.Do it before an activity or something that is going to take your mind off of having trays in your mouth or you will be looking at the clock every two minutes.I haven't had gum irritation like I did in the past but I think it is because this has a firm gel consistency.Don't overdo it when putting it in the trays.I usually do a thin line on the teeth that are showing when I smile.If it expands out into the gums when you insert your trays use a Q-tip or your finger to wipe along the gum line.This will help out mouth irritation big time!Also, I think it is best to use at night before bed.Whatever you do, do not leave this in overnight!From what I've heard your teeth enamel almost becomes a sponge after bleaching, so any colored food or drinks that are consumed after bleaching are absorbed more than usual and may inhibit or compromise your results.Definitely abstain from tea or coffee for at least 8 hours.Really, consider drinking these through a straw in the future, to keep staining down.The great thing about bleaching though is that once you get to a certain level your teeth are much more responsive to touchups.I would recommend visiting your dentist to get custom bleaching trays though.I think Zoom is way less effective and much more expensive.Anyway, hope this helps for those that are considering this product. :)
