I've only used it once as I jst got it.Just a small drop on toothbrush really provides a good volume of foam in the mouth.It is non-burning, unlike Colgate mint paste.It is a very mild pleasant flavor and almost has an ice cream like texture.My first imporession so far is very pleasant and would buy it again.And best of all, no toxic fluoride rat poison.
I was sure I must have reviewed this a while ago since I've been using this toothpaste for years. However I can't find my review so here goes...
This is the best toothpaste I've ever used. The flavor is very mild and unlike peppermint it doesn't sting your mouth. When I ran out of this toothpaste a few months ago I tried different versions and could really tell a differece in my dental health. When using this toothpaste my mouth feels clean longer and my teeth look whiter. I also notice less tartar and that makes my dentist happy. What I really like about buying products from Tom's of Maine is that there is no animal testing and the products do not contain any animal ingredients. There are also no artificial colors, flavors, fraganes or preservatives in this toothpaste. This is also sweetened with a natural sweetener called xylitol. It reduces the risk of tooth decay.
~The Rebecca ReviewI bought this product through Amazon because my local grocery store did not carry the fluoride free kind.Besides having a baby with 12 teeth, who is too young for fluoride, I am wary of using fluoride products for myself.
However, I was very disappointed to read on the ingredients list that this toothpaste contains sodium lauryl sulfate.This is the same stuff found in shampoos that supposedly causes estrogen imbalance in the body.If I don't want to use it in my shampoo, I definitely don't want to brush my teeth with it.
I grew up using Tom's toothpaste, but I will be looking for a different "all-natural" product in the future.I've been using Tom's fennel toothpaste for years and loved it so much. I ordered this new "Colgate owned" Tom's product and was very disappointed. The recipe is different. Hard to say how ... it just doesn't taste nearly as good as the old stuff. The fennel taste is bland or something.
They have a cute picture of the "Tom's family" and a lot of feel good rhetoric on the box and tube, like "we strive to maximize recycled content and recyclability of our packaging", but one of the things I loved about the old Tom's Tom's toothpaste other than the taste was the metal tube, which I could throw in my recycling box after I ripped off the little plastic nipple. Well, now the tube is plastic, so it isn't recyclable and it has to go to the landfill, along with all the other plastic crap big companies like Colgate peddle to the masses.
They mentioned on the package (I threw it away so I can't quote it) that the change to plastic was in response to their customers desire for an easier to use tube. Well ... since when was environmental responsibility "easy"? Isn't "easy" the reason we're ripping through the planet's resources at an alarming rate? Disposable razors are "easy", and disposable diapers are "easy". Thanks Colgate, for making Tom's toothpaste tubes "easy" to use, and disposable. Sarcasm aside, the plastic tube doesn't seem to fit with your ambiguous statement that you "strive to maximize recycled content and recyclability of (y)our packaging". One thing is for sure ... you are certainly "striving" to market this product with some pretty meaningless rhetoric.
I am not a big fan of mint toothpaste, and I feel like I have tried every non-mint option on the market. I stumbled upon this toothpaste at a local grocery store and ever since that one purchase haven't been able to find it on the shelves locally. This fennel toothpaste is hands down my favorite. It reminds me of the after dinner fennel candy that you might see at Indian restaurants: a little bit sweet and just enough fennel that it isn't overpowering.
